Windows desktop icons

Booted up my xp home pc tonight to find that i cannot move any icons on my
desktop. Also on left hand side of desktop are drop down menus for make new
folder, share this folder, other places, my documents, my network places.
I have run antivirus software in safe mode (desktop seemed ok there), but i
still have problem.
I have tried unchecking auto arrange with no success.
If i uncheck show desktop icons i get a white screen with the dropdown menus
on the left.

Well done that man , that sorted it. Ive been scrubbing this, and
washing that for the last two nights trying to get it sorted.

I have a similar problem, I think, but the utility mentioned says my
registry setting is good.
All my desktop icons are aligned to the left and I can't move them. If i
drag them they go back to ther place on the left.

Another problem that may be related is the fact that I cannot drag files
with my right mouse button and copy or move them. I do not get the copy or
move dialogue. I have to select a icon and then select cut and then move my
pointer to a new folder and select paste.
