Is Windows Defender a reliable Vista program? Would other programs work
equally well, or better? I have used the free version of AVG from Grisoft,
an
anti-virus program, for several years. It has done a very good job on every
XP computer in my home network. Another program I use is the free version of
Ad-Aware from Lavasoft, an anti-spyware program. It has performed very well
too. Are they Vista compatible?

Windows Defender is a malware/spyware tool similar to Ad-Aware, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware etc. It is not an anti-virus program.
For Vista install Avast, AVG, Kaspersky.

You might wish to continue use of Windows Defender until fully compatible Vista versions are released by other 3rd party sources. Visit their web sites for any news or releases.

You could check the websites for the corresponding programs....
But I find Defender to be ok, been no problems here.

I've been a long term user of AVG, I now use their Anti Malware suite which
is very good.
