When I turn on my computer a screen comes up to tell me that there is a
problem with my Windows Defender Service. This number follows: OX800106ba.
I have to click it away each time. How do I get rid of this screen?

Uninstall the old version and download the new one from the link below:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Also do you have Anti-virus Installed, turn the AV OFF when you do the
installation.

Here a lot of scenarios like yours and answers and you can post there if
your issue not been resolved:

If all fail try to run the Run command: sfc /scannow and let it run.
Do you get an Error Message, try to look in the event viewer for any error
messages (X) reported in the Error log.
HTH.

Are you on Windows 2000?
The original BETA would install, but later Windows 2000 was not
supported. That condition will produce the error you received.
