tray? i added windows defender to my start-up but still nothing. is it
running if it is not in the system tray?

Open Defender>tools>Options>about 1/2 down check the bullet "choose when
Windows Defender icon appears in the notification area"> 2 choices-only if
Defender detects an action to take-and-always-pick always to see it there
all the time.

Windows defender was designed to operate without the need of the Users interface. Therefore, no
desktop icon and no system tray icon (except when action is required). This is by design. However,
if you feel that you need these features to be comfortable with the program, you can change them.
Several other responses give you the steps.

For those who want detailed step by step illustrated instructions, I have written a PDF file on this
topic.
You can down-load a copy from the Verde Valley Computer Club web site. www.vvcclub.com
Go to "handouts" link on the left side of the screen.
Then to the "all other SIG handouts" and look for "Windows Defender Custom Installation"
Note: I just sent this document to our webmaster, so if it is not there yet, give it a couple of
days and look again.
