Windows Defender error--AGAIN

I fixed this last time by going to safe mode and renaming
softwaredistribtion folder to softwaredistribution.old but----it will not
install updates again, any new suggesstions?

What do you get in your event logs? Start/Orb, type event, click on Event
Viewer...

Orb logs? on the windows update event log it shows the windows defender
update failed

Are you looking in the Vista Event Viewer? At the Administrative Events?

How do I get to vista Event viewer??

Click on the Start/Orb button at bottom left on the taskbar, then type
event, then click on Event Viewer.

just subscribed to it and it has recent threads...

Thanks Mac--I went to defender news group and someone suggested that I do
the rename thing over again--so I did, deleted the first old and renamed it
again, and it worked!
