Size is only 186 KB, and it will not trigger a system restore point

[for example after a new install/reinstall of Defender]
you can get it at the Microsoft Malware Protection Center:

The full MPAS-FE is currently 12.6 MB

hi tim , can u help me sort my laptop out , my windows defender wont do a
full can , one of the updates that failed is 1.71.992.0 ... error message
80246005 comes up , when the scan gets to the media centre remote player
module file it shuts the laptop off , can you try and help me sort this
out ?

Try downloading the definitions from:

www.microsoft.com/security/portal

If that gets the definitions updated, try another scan.

If that still shuts things down, write back.
