Windows corrupted - what do I do?

Strange things are happening on my Windows XP machine.
The "Add/Remove Programs" program no longer opens.
The "Shut-Down" screen appears "see-through". The "Help
& Support" option on the Start Menu does not work (a dll
is missing).

I don't know what has happened, but I would like to re-
install XP over the existing install, without having to
resort to boot disks that wipe out all of my personal
storage. Is this possible?

If you have the WinXP CD then you can perform a Repair Install. Go here
