For some reason my "Add/Remove Windows Components" doesn't work any
more. What happenes is when I click it from Add or Remove Programs,
the wizard comes up briefly as if it's setting up something I've
configured, then tells me "You have successfully completed the Windows
Components Wizard", even though I haven't had a chance to configure the
windows components. Thus I can not add or remove anything at all. No
error in events at all and it just jumps right to the end of this
wizard.

Any help greatly appreciated

Hi Rainfrey,

Wondering if the sysoc.inf file contents are incorrect. Click Start, Run and type %windir%\inf\sysoc.inf and press ENTER. Copy the file contents and include them in your reply.

Thank you Ramesh,

I couldn't wait so I reinstalled a fresh copy of XP and spent the day
reinstallling programs (still at it).

Just as well, though -- it was a chance to clean up the hard drive.

Thanks for the reply.
