Hello,
just installed new notebook (hp/compaq 6710b).

Windows Vista Complete PC Backup can't find DVD recoreder: Windows could not
find any backup devices on your computer...The filename, Directory name or
volume label syntax is incorrect (0x8007007b)

"Back up files" suggests DVD RW drive correctly.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Miroslav

Thanks for prompt reply. Please note the error number is 0x8007007b, not
0x8007000b.

I checked event log - nothing suspicious.

Could this problem be caused by complex disc partitioning and non-windows
partitions?

I found few similar posts on the Internet. The problem is probably caused by
one or more of these facts:

- I use 3rd party bootmanager so vista partition is NOT active
- I originally installed vista using native SATA drivers but changed to
compatibilty mode later (for XP) later
- I have non-windows partitions on the disk (I teach on university so I need
other OSes as well)

Hi Miroslav,

I am out of answers. Sorry I couldn't help

I'd recommend resubmitting your post here:

OR

I'd recommend calling 1-866-pcsafety if you are in the U.S. or Canada.
Elsewhere, call your local Microsoft subsidiary, or the number for paid
support in your locale--and ask for the free help with virus or
security-patch related issues. This help extends to spyware removal as well.

Other than that, I'm about out of ideas, so good luck with it.

Let us know maybe someone else can conjure up something else to try.

Finally figured this out:

Complete backup does NOT work if Vista system partition is not Active. So
3rd party boot managers effectively DISABLE Complete PC Backup :(
