Last time I tried to report this problem, I was told not to come back until I
had the complete error message. Well we're in luck. The stupid OS failed to
load its profile again, and this morning I spent the 20 minutes necessary to
dig through the logs and find the error messages that Microsoft hid.

Here they are: (from most recent to least recent)

1) Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a
temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log
off.

2) Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to
use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.

3) Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this
error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile.
DETAIL - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by
another process.

Once again, shutting the stipid OS off and rebooting it has cleared the
problem, at least until next week when it will undoubtedly occur again. The
system was properly shutdown the night before, so it is not due to an
incorrect shutdown or power loss.

Go to Control Panel, User accounts and set up a new user profile. Use that as
the default and delete the other corrupt profile after you know the new one
is working.
