Windows cannot access the specified path...

I have 700 workstations and have set them to
automactically update in lite of the recent attacts/worms
and viruses. After running the updates no-one but the
local administrator can run certain programs or access
the control panel. the error message is "Windows cannot
access the specified path, or file. You may not have the
appropriate permissions to access the item."
I belive I am have a problem with corrupted profiles, as
the users that are trying to access these are in the
local admin group. When I reimage the machines back to my
last build they work fine so something in the updates is
blocking them from running the programs and shortcuts.

Any help or direction would be appriciated.

Hi Glenn,

there was/is? a problem with 822925 Cum IE Patch, which could cause the
behavior you describe, if installed on a machine, where the Cookies, TIF and
History folders are not in the default location (possibly only the Cookies
folder makes the difference). You could check, if the problem disappears, if
you uninstall that one patch on a machine that got messed up, to find out,
if you might be affected by this.
