Windows Calendar crashes at startup

Windows Calendar crashes with a 0xc0000005 error if I have scheduled
calendar events so it's trying to start at Windows startup, without
requiring me to run it. It simply gives me a "This application has
stopped working." dialog box, it closes, and I get nothing more after
that. I think it always does this for me now if I have scheduled
anything, so you could say it's pretty unusable for me. What gives? :-
(

The error in the Windows log book is partially in Swedish because I
run the Swedish Windows Vista Premium Edition:

Felet uppstod i programmet WinCal.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386,
tidsstämpel 0x4549b140, felet uppstod i modulen WinCal.exe, version
6.0.6000.16386, tidsstämpel 0x4549b140, undantagskod 0xc0000005,
felförskjutning 0x0004d6ea, process-ID 0xc30, programmets starttid
0x01c75da0fba81b46.

Basically means: "Error occured in program WinCal.exe, version X,
timestamp X, error occured in module WinCal.exe, version X, timestamp
X, exception 0xc0000005, offset 0x0004d6ea, process ID 0xc30, start
time X.

Btw, there seem to be two others with the same problem here:

Netherlands --
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...&tid=c2f6fbdf-ca44-447a-a0c5-660ac36dad31&p=1
France -- http://www.clubic.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t417860.html

I only see reports in foreign languages? Coincidence or localization
related? I was linked further here:
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/archive/index.php/t-215002.html

... but that solution didn't seem to work (both the ordinary WinCal and
the one in the recovery cache is working, just not working right when
launching in silent mode along with Windows Vista).

Not a coincidence, I'm running home premium (English OEM) and get a message
'calendar has stopped working' when I start vista.

just a matter of curiosity, but what happens if you use MSCONFIG and stop all startup programs.
just wondering if maybe some other program is causing it.

if colander then runs, you might enable half of the startup items and try it again. and continue with the halves until you have them all enabled again or the problem appears again. then back up to the last step and enable half of those etc....

I have gone through a complete support process with MS on this EXACT
problem. I even created new user accounts and Windows Calendar worked a few
times and then died with error messages at startup again. The support
process even required me to work with Task Scheduler as Windows Calendar
uses it.

The support process ended after lots of weeks as "Not Resolved" and they
talked to the developers of Windows Calendar and it is a known issue. But it
will take some time for them to rebuild it. When it is done it'll probably
be put on Windows Update or come with the next Service Pack for Vista. They
said they would contact me by e-mail but we can only wait and see.

It's a proggy error.

Task scheduler on startup runs WinCal.exe /reminder
Running WinCal.exe on it's own opens the calendar without a problem.

If I try running this manually, I get the same error. deleting this trigger
I think should stop it but I would suggest not relying on the reminders
working until a fix is in place.

you have been given a possible solution.
give it a try.
asking the same question time and time again is not productive. a lot of people will simply ignore it completely when they see the multiple posts for the same question.

I have the problem too -- sounds complex. Looking forward to a solution

i have the same problem, I am running the English version of Windows Vista
Home Premium and the problem started the first time i openned the calendar
and added an appointment. I think it tries to launch at startup to notify you
of reminders, but it fails. I did't have this problem before i tried to add a
reminder.

there is a knowledge base article with a patch for it.
do a search for the kb article at microsoft.
