Windows automatic updates stuck in loop

Hi, I'm having a problem with the Windows automatic updates. Every time I
turn off my computer, it alerts me that there are updates and then proceeds
to install 15 updates. This is occurring every time. I also noticed that
system checkpoints are being created daily. Any ideas on what is wrong on
how to fix it?

Windows XP Pro sp 2,
Pentium 4 2.80 GHz
1.00GB RAM

Hi Scott,

Start, Run, type services.msc and click OK, and then stop the Automatic
Update service. Then, try renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder in
your Windows folder. Set Automatic Updates to Notify. Start the
Automatic Update service. Download and install one at a time until you
find which one(s) is failing. Then report back.

You could also download and install SP3 which may take care of it also.
Prior to SP3, I uninstall IE7 and all prior updates, because SP3
doesn't cleanly remove all the prior update folders like SP2 did. And
then after SP3, run AU again to install all updates since SP3.
