Windows Automatic update - Are there different options for Administrator& User?

D

Dave F.

Hi

On my home PC (admin rights) I have it set up to download any updates in
the background & then when I go to close down it installs those updates
before auto turn off.

At my place of work (big network) our IT department claims this option
can't be used because we don't have admin rights & we have to do a
reboot after we first turn on PC's in the morning. (v. annoying).

What worries me is that they thought it _was_ installing on shut down,
as they all have admin rights!!
Their checking procedures must be piss poor.

They can't even guarantee that the updates are installing correctly such
is their lack of understanding.

Hope you can help clear this up for me

Cheers

Chances are that the machines at work are WinXP Pro and update via WSUS,
Dave. Lotsa differences, if's, and's & but's there.

Yes XP Pro at work, MC edition at home.

To a layman like me it seems ridiculous that for such a basic/important
function as updates that there's so much restriction/differences between
flavours.

Do you own the machine and network at work?
