Windows Auto Update - HELP!!!

I am in the process of updating windows XP via microsoft
updates. It is taking forever. It is on the last
one "Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Windows KB826939". It
is still running in Windows Task Manager, but it has been
on this last update for over 1 1/2 hour. No errors, no
messages, no indications on what it is doing or how much
time is left for the update - it says 0 minutes. This
has happened twice - the other time on another computer
which is now screwed up because I cancelled the process
after about 2 hours and now can't get on the internet on
that machine. Get error message about Common Client
User Session. Updates I have done in the past have
taken a couple of minutes. I did do a restore check point
before I started. Is this normal for this particular
update to take hours???? How do I get out of this
without causing problems? Thanks!

This process is a bit of a pain because you need to
reboot a few times but try this. Go into Control Panel,
Add/Remove programs. Scroll down to the very end of the
list and you will see all the patches you have installed.
Remove the last one and reboot. Test the PC. If the
problem is still there remove the next patch in the list
etc. You might get lucky and remove the one that's
causing the problem in one of the first goes. Good luck.
