Windows All Programs List is slow to load

I am running Windows XP Professional on my laptop. I have an intermitant
problem with the All Programs list. Once or twice a day when I go to the
Start Button and mouse over the All Programs Button it takes up to 30 seconds
for the list to populate. Most of the time the list populates instantly.
The issue does not seem to occur based on what is running at the time of the
problem. I have 2 GB of RAM and the problem occurs even if no other
programs are running.

Thanks
Dave

Dear devil:
Thanks for your reply. Your suggestion does speed up the loading of the
start menu when it is in "normal" mode. Perhaps it even loads it faster in
"problem" mode as well. However, the issue is still that the first time I
try and access the All Programs menu there is a noticable time lag before it
loads. This can be in the morning right after start-up or after many hours
of use. I haven't experienced such a noticable time lag on any other
machine. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Dave
