Windows activation

The computer was fully activated (was running for about
six weeks no problem) and I went on vacation for 5 days.
I shut the system down. I came back and turned on the
computer and recieved an error message about winlogin.exe
crashing. I restart and the system keeps asking me to
activate. When I click "activate now" windows crashes
and kicks me back to the login prompt. Error messages
about winlogin.exe not being able to validate the
activation key are everywhere as well. The system had
updated AV software (symantec) and is behind a properly
configured router/firewall.

Anyone had these problems and know a fix? Thanks.

Doesn't Product Activation on Windows XP leave a bad taste in your mouth
when it breaks and screws you like this? The below link is a search on the
M$ knowledgebase for "Product Activation error", so you may want to start
looking for a fix there. Good luck.

Windows XP crashed.
I am the Blue Screen of Death.
No one hears your screams.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.

Winlogin "is not" a valid Windows XP file. It is a virus file and has no
place on the computer.

WinlogON "is" a valid file.

Why take the time to bad mouth activation when all the guy has is a virus
infection.

But hey, you are entitled to your thoughts, as I am entitled to mine.
Microsoft was late to the game with protecting their property. They should
have done it somewhere about the time Windows 95 came out.

Has nothing to do with WPA. The op has a virus.

Be sure your correct here. Winlogin.exe may not be a XP file but
Winlogon.exe is a valid XP file. Check your message before doing
anything.

winlogin vs winlogon

This is true.

It could be all the OP has is a virus infection. It could be the OP has a
virus infection that broke PA. It could be that PA is broke anyway. I am
only going off of my own personal experience and that has taught me that PA
is a piece of sh*t! And you know what they say about experience being the
best teacher. ;)

I both appreciate and respect this view of yours. Thank you.

Hello,

I just recently ran into this issue with a PC. It would
not load the profiles in normal or safe mode. I then tried
last known configuration and when I tried to log into a
profile it said I needed to activate windows. I booted
with the XP disk, went to recover console and ran a chkdsk
/r on the drive. Once I did this, I could get into the
accounts. I had downloaded Ad-Aware and the latest
definition from www.shareware.com as well as CWShredder(can
not remember where I got that from). Installed AD-aware
and did a manual update on it. Ran CWShredder, then
adaware and that seemed to fix the issue. The computer had
been getting trend warnings about cleaning JS_FORTNIGHT on.
This worked for me, hope it helps you.

Thanks

AC
