I didn't recognize some files as necessary to run my W-98, and deleted many to free up space. Now, I have no speaker function, as if it is not connected, and many other normal windows 98 operating systems. How do I get them back? I get errors galore (e.g. Adaptec and Mapl OLE required to run program or file). I can see that I have mail, but can't read it, delete it, or do anything further.

Donna when you delete files instead of removing them in the usual way using Add\Remove you can end up in this state. Files that are added as a result of installing programs should NEVER be removed in any fashion other then using Add\Remove. If that fails then come here and we might be able to suggest an alternative. But in this case it is time for a reinstallation of the Operating System The errors you are getting won't be fixed any other way. You could always try reinstalling the programs that contain contain the files you are missing (or use sfc /scannow /purgecache in the Command prompt) but there is no guarantee here.
