Can I use the Windows 2003 sysprep version to deploy Windows XP SP2?

I have tested it, and it works fine but was wondering if anyone else has
been using it?

regards

JP

You should use the version that either shipped with XPSP2 or the one that
shipped with Windows Server 2003 SP1. The general rule of thumb is that you
can use Sysprep with the version of Windows XP or Server 2003 that shipped
previously to the one you are using. Since XPSP2 shipped AFTER Server RTM'd,
that version of Sysprep has not been tested on it, and may have issues...

Make sense?

Oups.

I meant to say that I have actually tested Sysprep from Windows 2003
SP1.....

My bad....so it is ok to use it right?

Thanks

JP

According to the table included in the DEPLOY.CHM file included in the
DEPLOY.CAB with the Windows Server 2003 SP1 deployment tools (available at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...F2-EBFD-4F99-BBC4-E93154C332D6&displaylang=en)
the WS2003 SP1 Sysprep is fully compatible with XP SP2, XP SP1, XP RTM,
Windows Server 2003 RTM, and Windows Server 2003 SP1.

Actually, there is something important to note here -

The version of Sysprep that came with XP SP2 can ONLY (and must) be used
when the source machine has SP2 slipstreamed into it. In other words, if you
install XP on the source machine, then install SP2, you CAN'T use the version
that comes with SP2! This has understandably caused much confusion.

Most likely, the version that comes with W2K3 works with XP SP2 as long as
you haven't slipsteamed the SP.

How do I find the version that comes with W2K3 SP1? Unpacking the files
doesn't create a Deploy folder, which is the place you would normally find
Sysprep. Do you mean from the CD version of the SP?

I missed the post from Michael N., so I got the W2K3 SP 1 version downloaded.
Thanks.
I just read the Readme from it and it says (with this version of Sysprep at
least) that although MS doesn't recommend using it on a non-SP-slipstreamed
source machine, it does mention a workaround. I didn't come across a
workaround for the XP SP2 version.
