Try the following:
1) Boot to safe mode.
2) Search for the file "dfrgntfs.exe" - it should be in c:\winnt\system32
3) Rename "dfrgntfs.exe" to "dfrgntfs.exe.old"
4) Extract a new copy of "dfrgntfs.ex_" - in order to preserve the file version - from either the W2K CD or from the Service Pack files, depending on
which one is currently on this system.
Example:
expand c:\win2Ksp4\i386\dfrgntfs.ex_ c:\winnt\system32\dfrgntfs.exe
(where c:\win2ksp4\i386 is location of the current service pack files installed on the system)
5) That will extract a "new" replacement version of "dfrgntfs.exe" to the c:\winnt\system32 folder.
6) From command prompt type "chkdsk c: /f" - The system will prompt you to run the check druing the next reboot. Press Y to accept.
7) Reboot the computer and let chkdsk run automatically.
Hope this helps!
