Windows 2000 Server

I have a rather wierd problem. (I've inherited this issue from a past
admin.) I have a server with 4 nic cards... It's a compaq and has 2 cards
teamed (Load balanced)with a 135.11.x.x ip and and addional card not teamed
with a 135.11.x.x (Both cards on same subnet) and another card with a
10.10.x.x with a different subnet (I disabled netbios on the 10.10 card and
there are no issues).

I imagine the idea was to have one of the 135 cards used for remote access
and the other for inside. Anyway, the issue is this, I keep getting
duplicate name errors on the network and I can not disable netbios on either
card. Also, sometimes the box freezes and when you reboot the shares can not
be accessed. I've been disabling the teamed nic card and the problem seems
to subside. There must be a better way to do this. Can anyone shed some
light?

This is a perfect example showing why should not have two IP addresses in the same subnet on a multihomed computer. Otherwise, you will have a name resolution issue like this one.

Thanks I know that, however, I'm stuck with it and wanted to know if there's
a way around the issue. If you disable Netbios over TCP/IP the duplicate
name does go away.

Once again I agree with Robert L. The computer will not use more than one
card (the teamed cards appear as one) on a subnet at a time unless addresses
specifically from the network by IP address. Matbe there ws a problem
getting the teamed card to work with RRAS, but I'd try forwarding RAS to the
teamed card and disable the second NIC on the same subnet. Also, try putting
a bandwidth counter (there are many free ones) on the teamed NIC and see if
your usage ever peaks what 1 card can handle. If not, use the single NIC
which should eliminate any problems with RRAS and the temed cards.
