Windows 2000 Server Application Problems

Darren

i am one of 4 people connecting to a windows 2000 server
using xp pro's remote desktop. I need this connection for
work. there is a database/contact manager (Act 6)
installed on the server and quoting software
(quotewerks). I have a P4 1.6gHz system running xp pro
and i have 512mb RAM on a cable high speed internet
connection which is running just fine (I've tested the
speed).
But I am the only one that has problems with these server
apps- they are laggy (sluggish) and acting like programs
would on a underpowered computer. I get some local
discoloration on the screen (in a small area, randomly,
and i know my monitor is fine) i get constant overlap of
screens (i don't know what you call it but i switch
between tasks and the first screen is partially still
showing through the second task), etc. And did I already
say laggy? bigtime.
How could it be that 4 of us are running the same app on
the same computer (the server) and although my specs and
connection are at least as beefy as the others, I am the
only one having these problems?
I can't see how it could be the software, or the
server...and since it's not my connection is it possible
that I have some faulty RAM or something? I have the
problems even when i have only one application open on my
server connection. And I should also say that i have
tried different settings on remote desktop- but mainly i
use the same configuration as the others.
Basically I would think that if the apps I am using are
physically installed on another computer, that my local
machine, as long as i have a good internet connection and
decent processor speed, should not and could not be the
issue. But that said I have been noticing some strange
behavior on my local machine- but it didn't seem to
correlate timing-wise with the server app problems, so I
chalked it up to coincidence. I've been getting various
stop-errors (is that also called the blue screen of
death) and I seriously think these are related to my
floppy and cd-drives (software/firmware related).
If anyone can tell me that the server apps may be related
to something on my local machine- I might resort to a
system format and clean OS reinstall, but I'd really like
to avoid that- especially if my hunch is right that my
local machine doesn't really come into play when I'm
running apps on a separate server computer.
Sorry about the long read, but I'd appreciate any advice.

Are you all running the app concurrently? Is the application TS-aware? There
are some tweaks / shims one needs to do for non-TS aware apps.
