Windows 2000 Proff Doesnt Shut Down.

When i click on Shut Down..windows 2000 proff does not shut down..
it shows no error..nothing...it not even restarts and not even log off...
only when i click on Stand By..it goes on Stand By mode..and then i switch
off the main plug..

what do?? pls reply..
