Right after I put in my password, the hour glass appears
and freezes. I have to press Ctrl-Alt-Del then Log Off
and after I put my password in again it will go into
Windows. When it freezes I could get into the Task
Manager and the process NTPP.EXE is shown about six times,
and using 100% CPU time btween them all.

It seems your machine does not freeze but it has a process
that consumes all the system resources. This could be
spyware. Download & run AdAware to get rid of it.
