Windows 2000 Hangs at startup

When the computer boots up, everything goes well until time to enter the password for
the Administrator User.

If you will notice on your own computer, when this screen comes up, the mouse arrow
changes to an hour glass for a short time.

If I give this screen an "OK" before the mouse changes to an hour glass, the computer
will log me in about 75% of the time. If I give this screen an "OK" AFTER the mouse
changes to an hour glass, the computer will NOT log me in 100% of the time. I get a plain
blue screen, and the mouse arrow changes to a LARGER hour glass, and just stays in
that mode until I power off, to restart (ctrl, alt, del doesn't work at this stage).

I have used MSCONFIG.EXE to eliminate everything possible, with no change (except
that the computer will not start at all (except in safe mode) if I select "Diagnostic Start-up -
load basic devices and services only".

I have performed a "Repair" of Windows 2000 Professional (with the assistance and
direction of a Microsoft technician on another issue) after this condition began
happening, with no change to this problem.

I think I've provided everything that has been happening, but if you need more
information, please ask.

Anyone know whats wrong here?

Thanks,
Bernie

I created another administrator acount, and it has the same problem.

I wouldn't know how to check my registry settings.

Thanks for the advice.
Bernie

It appears during the boot-up process every thing work's just fine. Until you login with
your "Administrator" account and password. My suggestion is to check your user registry
settings. Have you attempted to login using another administrator account, if not try it.
