Windows 2000 Disk Partitions

Hi,

I have just added a 4th disk to a RAID 5 set on a HP Server. This all went
well, an dwhen I go in to Disk Management I can see the extra space on Disk
0. It is showing as unalllocated. When I rigth Click on the unallocated
space the Create Partition option is not available.

Does anyone know why this is the case?
I currently have 4 existing partitions on this disk - is there a restriction
to the number of partitions ona single disk?
The disk is currently Basic. Do I need to upgrade to Dynamic to allow me to
add the extra space? If so, how long would it take to upgrade an 18GB Basic
disk to Dynamic, and does it invovle having users off the system during this
process, or a reboot at the end?

Thanks for your help.

Ian, probably you will need upgrade to dynamic disks, because basic disks get
some restrictions about partitions numbers. Or, you can use diskpart.exe
(from MS website) to "extend" your current drive letter.

You better check with HP and their RAID management tools about extending
your RAID onto this additional member. I don't think you wanna create a
partition.
