Windows 2000 desktop does not remember icon locations

Why do I have to reaarange my desktop icons everytime I boot my computer up?
Is there a way to save the settings so it boots up correctly?

Is Auto Arrange checked? Right (secondary) click on an empty area of the
Windows desktop, choose Arrange Icons By. If Auto Arrange is checked,
uncheck and see if the problem continues.
