Hi,

In Windows Explorer I set so that all folders by defualt should be viewed as
'Details'. I also checked the 'Remember each folder's view settings' box and
I did press the 'Like Current Folder' button to make the change 'global'.

This works fine...for a while. But for some reason it for some folders
changes
back to the defualt settings which is 'Large Icons'.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to get these settings to
really stick?

I know know that for Windows XP there is a registry value called BagMRU
that could be set to prevent it to go back to the defualt settings. Is there
anything
similar to this in Windows 2000 I can do?

Thanks!

'Remember each folder's view settings' allows you to set the view
individually and may be the root of your problem.

Well, I want to be able to customize some folders, i.e. I want the Control
Panel to have Large Icons.

Just wonder, is it just me who have this problem, or is it a known problem?

I can understand the frustration your going through. I'm having much the same problem. I have seven machines with win 2k on them and I am having problems with all of them holding any window or folder view configuration settings. This seems to have become an issue after the most recent updates (the last 6) not that I can understand why or how. Every time windows restarts all folder settings are reset back to details and the window size(s) and screen placements are lost. I have worked with windows for a long time and I know it's a registry issue. I just need to know where to go and edit the problem. I searched the knowledge base but have not been able to find any topics on the subject. I think my biggest problem is how to define the problem to the search engine. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I see this problem quite a bit. It started a few months ago, roughly
when I installed SP4, though I'm not completely sure of the timing.
It is not consistent between folders. My very old folders rarely do
this; newer ones (those created since SP4 installation?) more
frequently.

It is inconsistent: I change a folder back to View Details, open
another Explorer window to that folder and it is Icons. I change
nothing, but kill that Explorer window and open another, now it is
Details.

I have seen another posting where someone claims this happens in
conjunction with opening IE6, but that must be a different problem...I
rarely/never use IE.
