Windows 2000 Default Shell

G. Samuel Hays

Does anyone know how to change the default shell of a windows 2000 box on
an NT 4.0 Domain?

Local GPO or Registry Hack?

Thanks,
Sam

To change the shell to the old 3.1 style Program Manager, for example:

On a per-machine basis:
HKLM\software\Microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\winlogon
shell=progman.exe (REG_SZ)

You can create this value under HKCU to change the shell on a per-user basis
if you want.
