I have a server running windows 2000 server with service pack 4. At
irregular intervals but usually about 2 in every 3 days the system locks up.
It doesn't blue screen just ceases to operate with the windows interface
fully visible on the monitor. I have had several "techs" look at it but none
have been able to solve the problem. The only way to get the system back is
to hit the restart button. The only aspect that seems to have any
consistency to it is that it seems to happen mainly at night when no one is
accessing the system but as it is the mail server it is always checking for
mail and the disks are set to never turn off. Has anyone ever had this
problem or have any suggestions about what to look for.

Some questions:
- What does the Event Viewer report?
- When the machine is locked, can you move the mouse? Does the
CapsLock light operate when you press the CapsLock key?
- Does the server still lock up if you reboot it manually once every day?

Suggestions as to what to look for?
Look for a more qualified teknishun.
There are hordes of wannabees posing
as technicians. Caveat Emptor.
