Windows 2000 and Firewalls

Hi,

Are you using ICS (Internet connection Sharing) ?
If you configured ZoneAlarm as a ICS gateway then all PCs
that are part of your Local network will be allowed to see
each other and share files. Only people coming from
externally will get blocked.

I have a network of 4 computers in my house right now
using a Linksys 8 port cable modem router and all but one
comp are running XP. My one roommate has 2000. I have my
comp sharing a bunch of files with everyone else, so I
leave my comp on pretty much 24/7. Since I do that with a
cable modem, I use ZoneAlarm Pro firewall and keep it
updated regularly. The other two comps running XP needed
to be added to the firewall to gain access. Unless I did
that, I wouldn't even show up on the network to them.
However, my one roommate with 2000 didn't need access and
has been able to see my files for some time now. That kind
of freaked me out because if someone else with 2000 wanted
to see my files over the internet, they could easily
bypass my firewall (theoretically). What do I have to do
to secure my PC from 2000 with a firewall?

I'm not sure about ICS. How would I know if I am or not

ZoneAlarm is only installed on my comp; nothing else.

Hi,

I have the following configuration.
Main PC has two network cards (one going to Internet via
cable modem and other going to 4 port hub). I have ICS
enabled so that machines connected to hub can hop from the
network card linked to hub onto network card connected to
internet and then out. If you look at your Network
Connections (in control panel) if you have ICS enabled one
will have the word Shared next to it and a hand symbol
underneath.
