I'm trying to see if I can get some work from a company of a friend of a friend, and they have some issues

1) They have a windows 2000 server to host their network of 9 workstation
2) They have a custom filemaker pro database that all workstations interact with, the DB has both private and public dat
3) The current DB is "crapping out", i.e. having performance problems so needs to be replaced or redone
4) They want a web application to host the public info, but want to keep the private info local

What would you suggest for a local database that could handle the multiple workstations, yet also export the public information in a format that a conduit application could transport to the web application? (the conduit and web applications do not exist yet

A new filemaker database is one option, but what else

Thanks in advance for the help!

Besides the obvious, and very expensive, SQL Server 2000, I would
investigate MySQL. I have not yet used it in any solutions, but I hear the
latest version (5.0?) is capable of serving an enterprise solution.

Here is the web-site:

4.0.18 is the current build. 5 is in beta. Runs extremely stable for me.
Only have a few gb database though with 20 users. make sure you read the
documentation before you start. Good Luck

You may want to look at Pervasive.SQL. You can find them at www.pervasive.com. It is very strong, fast, is ZDBA (Zero database administration) and has a low TCO.
