Did you by any chance accept a strange supposedly picture file transfer on
MSN? I did the same thing, and I got a virus which did exactly the same as
what's happening to you. Somehow, I managed to get rid of it. I'll tell you
what I did, and hopefully it'll work for you too.
Reboot your computer, and press F8 or whatever to bring up the menu with
Normal mode, Safe Mode, etc. There should be an option similar to "last good
configuration". Select this, and start the computer up in that mode.
Then, open up "My Computer", go to "Tools", "Folder Options", "View", and
then make sure the "View hidden files and folders" option is selected. Then
delete all these files:
C:\lspt.exe
C:\Crazy frog gets killed by train!.pif
C:\See my lesbian friends.pif
C:\Annoying crazy frog getting killed.pif
C:\LOL that ur pic!.pif
C:\My new photo!.pif
C:\Me on holiday!.pif
C:\Fat Elvis! lol.pif
C:\The Cat And The Fan piccy.pif
C:\How a Blonde Eats a Banana...pif
C:\Mona Lisa Wants Her Smile Back.pif
C:\Topless in Mini Skirt! lol.pif
C:\Jennifer Lopez.scr
C:\WINDOWS\msmbw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\serbw.exe
There are a few other files I think, including ones titled something like
"british national flag" and "message to larissa".
Now try running anti-virus, anti-spyware, and registry removal programs.
Remove EVERY infected file your scanners find. For free scanners, I recommend
AVG Anti-virus, Microsoft Anti-Spyware BETA, and a trial of 3B Software
Windows Registry Repair Pro.
If you still can't open these programs, try going Start > Run > msconfig,
and if that works, then run a clean boot. To do a clean boot, click
"selective startup", and then disable "process system.ini file", "process
win.ini file", and "load startup items". Then restart your computer, and once
again, try your anti-virus/spyware and registry fix programs.
I hope this helps - I know how terribly annoying this virus can be. I came
close to wiping my hard drive... well, I would've, except the virus wouldn't
let me...
