window transparency?

I have 2G RAM, Aero enabled, a GeForce 6600 with 256 MB, and Transparency
Enabled. But no transparent windows. Shadowing, etc. works but not this. How
do I get windows to be transparent, please?

Actually, let me restate that: borders are transparent, actual window isn't.
Aren't they supposed to be?

Thanks.

Only the borders are transparent (actually translucent) on my system. I'm
pretty sure that's the way it's meant to be.

afaik the actual windows are not meant to be transparent, only the
borders. How would you work if you could see everything underneath the
window you're working in?

Well, that clears things up. Thanks, Q, Robert and Neil.

Actually, I had a little freebie app several years ago for Windows 2000 that
made windows transparent in sliding percentages. Keeping it upwards of 80%
worked nicely. Let me see what was underneath the window, but dark enough
for me to view my work in the active window too.

I thought I saw a screen grab which showed the whole window transparent, but
I guess I was just having a geezer moment. :)

Hi A

as promised

magazine details: PC Advisor Jun 2007 page 85,

the screenshot is of Desktop, with the windows sidebar add gadget window
open and the window sidebar window is tranluscent, I just checked on my
Vista Home Premium and clicking to add a sidebar gadget does indeed open a
translucent window with the available gadgets. So I imagine if it's
possible for that window then it's possible for other windows as well,
probably need to check the registry settings for Sidebar, beyond me I'm
afraid, and checking the magazine article the step by step is for adjusting
the size and transparency of windows borders.

Hi A.....No Geezer Moment.... I've seen a screen grab depicting exactly what
you say in a recent PC Magazine, and there was an article accompanying it
with step-by-step instructions, I just didn't like the look and am happy
with just the translucent borders, give me a few minutes and I'll post the
mag details, just have to scan through the last 4 or 5 mags I bought, it was
fairly recent mag.
