Window explorer hangs

The window explorer of my XP Professional hangs under the
following conditions:
(1) when the File of menu bar is clicked
(2) when right click on a folder
(3) when any detail item is selected and right clicked on
it.

The windows task manager shows that the relevant window
explorer process is not reponding.

I have used windows update to apply all available patches
but the problem still persists.

Could anyone advise how to fix the problem?

Hello!
what happens in the safe mode?
start>open control panel>administrative tools>event viewer;
here look for application errors.
Have you updated all the drivers?

Scan your system with latest virus definitioned
antivirus/spybot.
