Windos XP: How to download the OS

I

IZ

Hi
I bought a used PC, it did not come with a XP CD (software
is loaded and the licence sticker is on the machine).

I was told I can download a copy of Windows XP with this
licence, is it true and how?

Am I considered a legal owner of win xp with this sticker?

How do I know whether I have windows XP or XP Home?

Thanks

No, you can't.

You have a legal LICENCE.

Start-Run and type "winver" (without the quotes)

The oem is only required to provide you with a means to restore the computer
to factory state, the day you bought it. If you have no xp cd or restore cd,
then xp is most likely on a hidden partition. A program would activate the
hidden partition, format the drive and reinstall xp.

You cannot download XP. (at least not legitimately)

If it's a COA sticker from ms, then yes your legal.

Windows XP comes in these versions:
Windows XP Home = 32 bit.

Windows XP Pro = 32 bit.

Windows XP Media Center Edition = 32 bit

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition = 32 bit

Windows XP 64 bit Edition = 64 bit.

To find your version - Start, run, type in: winver, hit enter.

If the party that sold you the computer also told you that you could
download XP, you may want to verify that you do in fact have a hidden
recovery partition on your computer, with the recovery copy of XP on it, and
that you know how to activate it. Otherwise, even getting a virus, not to
mention corrupting your OS by other means, could leave you having to spend
at least $88 for a whole new XP.

No. Windows XP is not legally available for download, to you or
to anyone else. If the computer was originally bought with XP
pre-installed, and the vendor didn't include a CD, there may be a
hidden partition on it with XP installation files there. Or the
person who sold it to you may have kept the CD, in which case see
below.

If the seller didn't keep a CD and use it another computer, yes.

The distinction is between XP *Professional* and XP Home, not
between XP and XP Home. To determine which you have, right-click
on "My Computer," choose "Properties," and look on the "General"
tab.
