Win98SE<XP?

I am running Win98SE on my laptop. (Pentium II 266 Mhz. 144 RAM 18.6 GB)
Can I install WinXP Home or Professional on this, without doing a clean
install? I have both operating system programs which came with a desktop
and a new laptop.

Go to the XP web site and download Upgrade Advisor. It will give you a list
of incompatibilities.

If XP came with another computer and was supplied by the manufacturer of
that computer, it cannot be installed on any other computer. First, it's a
violation of the EULA (End User License Agreement), Second, XP can only be
activated on one computer at a time. If it has already been activated on
one computer, it will not activate on another and XP ceases to function
after 30 days without activation.

Also, I forgot to mention, most manufacturer, tie the OEM versions they
provide to user to the system BIOS. Hence, even if removed from one system
it might not even install on the other.
