Does anyone know what is the size and date of WIN32K.SYS and in which directories should it resign.

I have like 7 of them in various directories.

Thanks.

Should be two copies: c:\windows\system32 and
c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

Hi, Paul.

My \Windows\System32Win32K.sys is 1,820,120 bytes, dated 3/12/2004. There
is another copy in \Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386. And there are two
earlier versions in $NTUninstall* folders.

The only one you are using - and really need - is the one in the System32
folder. The others are copies in case the working copy is damaged or lost,
or you need to uninstall an update. If your disk space is limited, you can
delete the extra copies, but then you may need your CD-ROM and/or to
download the update again some day.

Hi, Paul.

How long since you visited Windows Update? You should go there at least
weekly to be sure you are protected from the latest viruses, worms, etc.
Those who visited WU last summer were protected from the Blaster worm that
wreaked such havoc a few weeks AFTER the fix was available at WU.

There are MANY ways to reach WU. From OE, click Tools | Microsoft on the
Web | Windows Update.

Also, you can set WinXP to handle this automatically for you on a schedule.
Go to Control Panel | Automatic Updates and set it up to suit yourself.

Hi, Paul.

No, I can't explain why your Win32K.sys is dated 2002. :>( I'm not sure
what you mean by "the fellow that replied previous to this message"; do you
mean me? I had previously reported (see below in the quoted thread-to-date)
that:(I've added the missing \ .)

What is the size and date of your Win32K.sys?

I mentioned a couple of other copies in UNinstall files. They are:
\Windows\$NtUninstallKB824141$\win32k.sys 1,694,336 bytes, dated 10/23/2002
\Windows\$NtUninstallQ328310$\win32k.sys 1,813,632 bytes, dated 08/29/2002

Do either of these match any of yours? Most important, does one of them
match your \Windows\system32\win32k.sys?

Are you having a problem that may be related to Win32K.sys, Paul, or is this
just an academic inquiry?
