When I did a search of C: for svchost, it listed a "bunch" of files titled:
C:Windows/Pc/Health/error as well as a few others. Is it safe to delete
these files and could they be the cause of the annoying message I keep
getting on startup: Generic Host Process for Win32 services, etc.? In
addition to the Norton scan I have done 2 other scans and there are no
viruses detected. The message started to appear right after some automatic
updates.

See if there is an error report in Event Viewer and if there is post a
copy.

Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Thanks for replying so promptly. I can't paste the error msg because nothing
happened when I couble click the "double page" icon. The 4 error messages
that appear throughout the entire listing are:
1) Faulting application.version 0.0.0.0 faulting module unknown version
0.0.0.0 fault address 0x00000000
This message appears 6 times

2) Fault bucket 07918338
This appears only one time right after an error msg like the one above

3) Faulting application svchost.exe version, etc. (same as above)
This appears twice

4) Hanging application restrui.exe version 5.1.2600.2180 hang module
hungapp.version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000

I am really frustrated over this. I tried to send an email to Microsoft but
only get as far as the computer ID screen. The ID # I put in came back as
invalid and, when I leave the box checked for Microsoft to find the ID, the
next screen is blank. I can't get to the screen to send an email.

When I just checked there were 3 more errors in Event Viewer. All 3 are
dated today and based on the time seem to have occurred at or near the end of
an online virus scan I was doing with Panda. The 3 today are as follows:
Application Hang
Category none; (101) and (101
Event 1001; 1002 and 1002
User N/A
Computer Your-VOS2

Error 1 indicated Fault Bucket 61838717
Error 2 Hanging application mail clnt.exe.version
2004.0.129.0. hang module hungapp.version 0.0.0.0 hang address 0x00000000
Error 3 Same as 2

Ironically, my mailbox is also frozen. I went into it and was able to
retrieve 5 messages, delete 3 and then it froze. I had to use alt/ctrt/del
to get out of it.

The categories for all the other error messages are either (100) or (101)
The events for all the others are 1001, 1002 and 1004

I really appreciate your trying to help me. As you can tell, I'm not very
computer savvy!

I am struggling with your error reports. You need to copy and paste so
that they can be seen in their entirety.

Have you tried checking for spyware?

If not installed download Adaware and / or update Reference file
from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and use it to remove
parasites.

Sorry I can't get the "double page" icon to work. Nothing happens when I
double click on it. I'll try again to explain.
I open Event Viewer
I double click on Application
then picture the following across the top of the page:

When I click on the word "Error" the following comes up:

P. S. Yes, I had spyware nuker installed and it showed nothing. I also did
an online scan for parasites. What I did notice is that the spyware and
online virus/parasite scans totally screw up my email account. Each time
I've had to use System Restore to get my computer to work.

When you click on the Double Page icon nothing does appear to happen.
However, if you have an Outlook Express message or Microsoft Word
document open you will be able to paste. I have not tried it with
Internet Explorer, which I see you are using to access these newsgroups.

Are you using this software:

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling. Also check for programme
updates.

Is your System Restore working properly? Is it creating Restore Points?
