Win2k upgrade - Domain members

B

Big D

My current environment has 1 NT4 PDC and 1 NT4 BDC and 10
Win2000 member servers of the domain.

When I upgrade my PDC to Win2000 and create my AD domain,
do I have to do anything to my member servers after the
fact? Not sure if any action is required.

Also, my BDC is old hardware so after the upgrade of the
PDC I would like to just turn it off and make one of the
existing Win2000 servers a DC to take its place. Can I do
this?

Thanks in advance.

Member servers are just fine nothing you have to do.

Sounds like a good idea to upgrade your hardware. But I would promote the
member server before removing the BDC from the domain. Once you have that
second dc then you can remove the BDC.

Make sure you have at least two backups before the migration and do a test
restore. A good back up can be the difference between employment and
unemployment.
