Win2k to another HDD

Dear All,

I'm wondering if Win2K would have a problem if I was to clone the drive to
an image, swap the HDD to a bigger capacticy, and unclone the image? I can
and have done similar on my WinXP machine, but before I try on my Win2k
machine I am asking has anybody else done it? I don't wanna muck the machine
up if I don't have too. But I'm also trying to avoid doing a re-install on a
machine that is working. =-)

Regards.
Paul.

Hi Kardon,

I use Ghost 2003 for cloning drives. Slap in your bigger drive as a
slave, use Ghosts clone option to mirror your drive to the slave. When
it's finished swap your drives places and jumpers if need be. When you
fire up again you'll be running on the drive that was a slave.

There's really not an option of "uncloning". You're really making a
bootable drive that's exactly the same as the original.

I think most of the HD manufacturers distribute free software that does
just about the same thing. Look around on any of their web sites and see
what they offer.

Sounds like a plan to me, I've got a 40gig as the slave at the mo, I'm
getting a another bigger drive I wanna use as a slave, so I'll clone over to
the slave, and swap them....

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction..

Hi again,

I use a tray that holds my second drive. I turn the drive on or off with
a key so it's east to isolate. Every week or so I turn it on and make a
fresh copy of my drive. Before you play something serious, like a
machine screwing up software, it's also good to make a new clone.

I've used Ghost several times to upgrade the size of disk on my main pc at
home. It's been on a 40gb then 120gb then 200gb and now a 400gb disk.

It's a good method of upgrading without reinstalling.
