Recently I ran into a problem on my laptop, the fan kept
on turning on. Up until a few days ago, it never turned on
(except when saving a large Visio diagram). Now it runs
about 50% of the day, and CPU utilization for svchost.exe
is pegged most of the day, reading 99% most of the time.

Any idea on what may be causing this abnormal behavior?
Google searching has turned up nothing.

I checked, and do not have that security update installed.
Additionally, I use eTrust AV software and did a full scan
with the latest signature (23.64.85) and did not find
anything. I also checked the size of the svchost.exe file,
and found it at the correct size, 7.76KB. Someone had
mentioned in another thread that there was a Trojan that
could take over this file that was larger than the normal
file.

There are dozens of infectors that either infect the MS SVCHOST file or use their own file
with that name.
