Win2K Pro - Why does the routing table contain web IPs

Hi,
I have been trying to troubleshoot some network issues and in the process
discovered that the Windows (2k Pro and XP) routing table is updated with
the IP addresses of remote sites accessed over Internet Explorer. I thought
it was common practice to resolve an IP and if the IP is not present on the
local network forward any traffic to the default gateway. Why does windows
keep these IPs in its routing table?

thanks
dilan

It shouldn't. The routing table is constucted by the routes it knows about
which are the ones physically connected to it. It won't dynamically update
with other routes without some sort of routing protocol.
