dude

I need to know if this is ok to do. We have a forest in place with one
tree. Currently consisting of one root domain with two Win2k SP4 root DCs,
and one Win2k child domain with two Win2k SP4 DCs. I'd like to know if it's
ok to create another child domain using Win2003 DCs under the current root
domain. What are the gotchas here???

thanks

Yes you can, but you have to use adprep /forestprep to prepare your forest
schema for WS2k3 domain.

What is the catch to this? Would this retain all Win2k AD functionality
without disturbing anything? And what if we need to migrate our current
Exchange 5.5 servers to Exchange 2003 in the future? What is the
implication on that? If there are any articles on this, it'll be very
helpful. I have not found any myself.

thank you

Yes it would, just that Windows Server 2003 as DC needs higher AD schema
version, and as schema is forest wide you have to upgrade your forest
schema. I have already done this in some organizations without installing
Windows Server 2003, but just to prepare their system for this. It all went
fine and there were no implications on existing domains.
