Win2000 locks when a CD is inserted

I have a problem in that much of the time when I insert a
CD into a drive (I have a Liteon DVD ROM and a Samsung CD
writer), the machine examines the CD as usual but then
often the PC will just freeze completely. I have to press
the reset button to get it going again.

99.9% of the time, after the reboot, the CD works fine.
I've done the usual things (virus check, latest service
pack, searched the Knowledgebase, etc) but can't seem to
find a solution.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi,

For what it's worth:
I have the same exact problem, only when I re-booted, I did not have
the 99% success rate as you indicated.

In my case, I couldn't run anything from the Acer CD Rom, and could
only read/write from my Lite-On cd-rewriter.

I've determined it's a bad Acer drive that was hanging when I tried to
do CD things from it.

I had already isntalled the latest service packs, etc.

HTH,
Jim
