Win2000 CD-KEY issue

There are two Windows 2000 Professional computers. When Windows 2000
Professional had been reinstalled on one of the two computers, the user
accidentally used the Windows 2000 Professional CD-KEY for the second
computer rather than the first computer. We would like to enter the correct
Windows 2000 Professional CD-KEY on the first computer.

How can we enter the correct Windows 2000 Professional CD-KEY on the first
computer? Is this possible through editing the Windows Registry through the
following two registry entries?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]
"ProductId"="{ProductId}"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
"ProductId"="{ProductId}"

I'm not sure about newer systems like windows 2000, but in windows 95 the
serial was built into system\user.exe - perhaps you should check your
equivalent of that file to see if it still applies.
If it does I don't know how safe it is to alter the file.

Don't worry about it. As long as you have two licenses, it doesn't matter if
you used the same CD for both installs. This is pretty common.
