I donwloaded a file that needs winzip. Isn't there a
place to download this for free? I know I had it on my
Windows 98 computer last year. I now have Windows XP.
After I download it, how do I unzip a file? Thanks.

XP has "compressed folders" you can use that to extract the contents of a
zip file via a wizard.

Can you please tell me the steps of how to do that. I am
not real computer literate. I have the file to unzip on
my desktop, but can just redownload it if that would be
easier. Thanks so much.

Right click on the file

Extract all...

To help you become more computer literate, would you not consider the WinXP
help files to assist you?

| WinZip: http://www.winzip.com/
|
| After use, to reinstall the default for XP:
|
| Start/Run: regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

That just means that it is a zipped file, that was done by
the sender using WinZip. IZARC will open just about any
file compression type and I like the interface better than
WinZip. And it is free, WinZip will popup a EULA until you
pay for it.

| The particular program downloaded was a winzip file, she
stated. And this
| was only to be temporary.

I have just learned Windows has there own unzip file, but
I can't seem to get it to do anything. I downloaded
winzip the other day then deleted it. Could that mean my
windows unzip is not there anymore? I am very confused
at tis point. Thanks.

see http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm or
better http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks2.htm#fix
and look for restore zip folders.
