The system bus is right but that speed is what bothers me, under my
computer, properties is says 3.18 on this Intel thing is says 3.25

Debbie

No on that picture it said the normal is 3.16 but actually running at 3.25
now. When I click on my computer and pick properties is says it's running
at 3.18. So is the intel utility off a bit?

Debbie

Oh my I would never clock it up that high. Now since I did all this I don't
have to adjust any voltages do I? My temps right now are CPU 45c and MB
42c. I have a fan on the side and one in the front. One in the back and a
new one on the CPU. Now I usually keep the pc on all night, should I shut
it down instead?

The processor is running at proper speed but it is still calling it
overclocked. I think I read on some reviews that some people had to adjust
it to get the right speeds. So I'm good to go then?

Debbie

Did you run Prime95 I mentioned in my earlier
post?

Your CPU Temp (CPU 45c) looks a little high,
are you using the stock Intel Heatsink and Fan?
If you are not using Intel's stock heatsink and
since assembled this system yourself what did
Heatsink and Thermal paste did you use.

Prime95 "Stress Test"
"FREE MERSENNE PRIME SEARCH SOFTWARE"
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/

Download and unzip. It's a standalone .exe file
when you first start this program you will see
a "Welcome to GIMPS" window. bottom right click
on the "Just Stress Testing" button. In the
"Run a Torture Test" window select the "Blend"
option. Leave the "Number of threads to run"
at 2. Don't forget to start SpeedFan before running
Prime95 so you can monitor your CPU temperature.
When your done running Prime95 use the menu to stop
the test, if you don't and just X out it will still be running
in the background in which case you will need to open
Task Manager to Kill the Prime95 process.

I Personally turn my PCs off at night even though each
PC has it's own UPS power backup unit, why keep the
system running when your sleeping.

On that stress test, do you run that while you uses the pc or at idle like
over night?

Debbie

Run the test by itself, do not use it for any
other purpose while it's running. Keep an eye on
the display about every 5 minutes to see if the "worker"
is still running or stopped, if its stopped there should be
a short error message and than means the system has
failed the test.

Failing the test is usually caused by memory, either the
memory does not meet specifications or your motherboard
(BIOS) voltage is on the low side of what CORSAIR specifies
as the correct voltage.

Using SpeedFan to monitor you CPU temperature will tell you
if the CPU is running too hot and therefore may also be the cause
of failing the Prime95 test.

You usually only need to run it for about 3 hours if there are any
real problems. Running it overnight if you feel like it as long as
the CPU temperature is not too high, what's too high varies by
processor but all my PCs for P4 HT on up to my E6700
runs under 50 degrees C.

With the E6700 (engineering sample, stepping 5 rev B1) running well
below that as it has a Thermaltake Big Typhoon for a Heatsink and cooler,
and it's currently overclocked from the standard 2.66GHz to 3.0GHz
and can overclock as fast as 3.6GHz.

I didn't put the CPU in myself, I had the techs do that, I didn't want to
mess with that. I just bought the part and had them install it so I don't
know what kind of paste they used. I replaced the stock fan with a Zalman
9500A 92mm. My pc always ran in the 40c's even with a side fan and I just
recently added a third fan in the front. The case is in a enclosed shelf in
the desk. I always keep the door open a bit for the air to get around in
there.

What about the voltage, do I need to change it?

Debbie

Most BIOSs that allow you choose either an
'Auto' or manually when setting the CPU and Memory
voltages. Since you are not overclocking set it to 'Auto'
(Make a note of the current voltage settings if you have changed them)
and then run Prime95.

okay here's I what I figured out. Asus has this utility called AI suite,
with it I was able to change the CPU ratio to 9.5 and when I went into the
BIOS that number showed up in place of the auto (the one where it wouldn't
let me open to set to manual). But when I checked with the CPUID it would
flip back and forth from 6.0 to 9.5 and then finally stop at 6.0. Also in
that AI suite you can change the FSB Freq. I tried that up to 338 but the
CPU ratio still stayed at 6.0, the only thing that went up was the CPU speed
from 3.16 to 3.25. I didn't want it that high, the core speed didn't go up
just that processor speed. So back into the AI suite I selected the N.O.S.
overclocking, set the FSB freq. back to 333 and set it to 3% overclock.
Rebooted and the 3.16 is now at 3.18 (what it was before I use the AI
suite), CPU ratio stays at 9.5, memory DRAM freq. 536.4, and the funny thing
that Intel ID utility doesn't refer to it as overclocked now, even though
it's set in the N.O.S. How is that possible?
