Win XP Pro: how to make small icons in quicklaunch bar

I have Win XP Pro and am using the Win XP style start menu, not the
classic start menu/taskbar. My quick launch icons are large, how do I
make them smaller? Is this only possible in the Classic style taskbar?

Unlock your taskbar - right click it, and uncheck lock.
Right click in the quick launch area, click view, then small icons. When
this reduces the size of your taskbar to one standard line size, the day of
the week will also go away, so that will solve your other problem. (I just
recreated this on my system so I know it works).
