Win XP is suddenly not able to recognize the DVD side of my DVD/CD

My DVD/CD Writer worked perfectly for more than three years. Suddenly
without having made any changes to the system and in spite of the Device
Manager showing this Writer as working properly, it fails to to see full
and/or empty DVD Disks. It does however play CDs.
Totally at a loss.

Thank you Leonard. That is what I thought and bought a new DVD Writer. Same
problem. I then looked through the letters in this newsgroup and found the
anwer that worked.
Right click my computer, choose Manage, from Services and Application choose
Services, scroll down to IMAPI. Start if needed and set to Automatic if
necessary. It worked perfectly. You may be able to help someone else.

Glad you found your answer.

Still, for $40 you can buy a drive that blows your old one away ;-)
